Description: Very hardy plant. Grows rapidly for the first 30 - 40 years. Mature at about 60 years with long trunk and narrow crown. A good and distinctive outline for winter interest.
Requirements: Must have lots of light & water
Height: 20 – 25M
Canopy spread: 10M
Life span: Up to 150 years
Where you should/could plant the Alder:
Soil Type: All soil types - except poor acid peats.
Found: Natural throughout UK and most of Europe
Additional Information: Suitable for use as pioneer species, e.g as a plant that can be used for site reclamation of previously unplanted land.
