Creating kerb appeal in your garden will sell your house
Kerb or curb appeal will help to sell your house and for the best possible
price. It is not necessarily expensive or time consuming. However, the
reason kerb appeal matters, is the psychological affect it has on the
potential purchaser. A property presented well shows you care. If you
don’t care about the entrance to your property then the chances
are that you don’t care about the property itself.
Here are some of the main points to consider when working out what to
do to your front garden or yard
- All grass should look well maintained
- Kill off and dig up any weeds
- Give any straggly or lop sided shrubs shape
- Trim any straggly looking hedges
- Trim any plants blocking the view from any windows
- Trim any plants blocking the view from any doors
- Get rid of plants that cut down on light coming in the windows
- Get rid of plants that cut down on light coming in the doors
- Tidy up plants who’s flowering/foliage season has ended –
be careful with this one

- Mulch any bedding area that is exposed
- Use plants to hide eyesores
- Top up old gravel
- Get rid of oil stains on driveways
- Replace broken flags, bricks…
- Paint or stain any tatty wood e.g. decking
- Hide or conceal refuse and recycling bins
- Make sure that all your outdoor furniture either looks good or goes
into storage
- Got an area that looks naff? Go to a local nursery - what looks good?
Check it will still look good in 2 months time and plant
- Surrounding gardens, hedges, borders do they need tidying up? Offer
to help your neighbours tidy them up, sometimes it’s all people
need to spur them into action
- Unsure of what level to go to check out your competition they will
show you where the entry level starts
- Got stiff competition? Think in terms of colours, display types, go
for impact!
- Paint or clean any windows and doors
- Clean windows
- Scented plants or shrubs near your windows and doors. Lead people
into your house so it both looks good and smells great.
Ok this will not get you a designer garden but at least it will help
to keep up with the competition. Get people to view the property and you
will get offers. Well-maintained gardens help to get people through the
door. If nothing else apply the KISS rule, to your front garden, simplicity
is all.
Too much to do and too little time to do it in, call in the pros.
