Tips and tricks for floral displays and displaying plants
General tips & tricks
- Placement - Any type of plant or floral arrangements
arranged in front of mirrors gives an added wow factor
- Position – Make sure floral displays are at
the right height
- Lighting – Lighting affects how people look
at plants. Too bright or too low level lighting will spoil the visual
effect
- Avoid - positioning plants or flowers behind pillars,
high or large objects
- Safety - If children are to be included in the event
check with your hire company as to the safety of the plants or flowers
for your event. Some plants are highly toxic
Tips to help you get the best out of your floral arrangements.
- Flower types - Not all cut flowers last for the same
length of time, check with your event florist to see if your choice
of cut flower is appropriate
- Avoid – Placing floral arrangements where people
will come into physical contact with them. Lilies are a classic example
- the pollen will instantly stain any clothing that comes into contact
with the anthers. To remove the stain do not rub this will cause the
pollen to become more ingrained! Get some tape and dab it gently against
the pollen repeatedly until all the pollen has gone
Cut Flower Arrangements - Aftercare
Assuming the arrangements have to last for more than one
day, try the following tips
- Fresh water - Add fresh water every day to vases
for long lasting displays
- Feeding - To feed cut flowers add a spoonful of sugar
or commercial flower food the results are the same
- Storing cut flowers - Extend the lifetime of floral
displays by putting them in a cold or cool room overnight
- Heat, sunlight and draughts – Avoid placing
floral arrangements near anything that produces heat, sunlight and draughts
- Clear water - Add a few drops of household bleach
to the flower water to prevent gunk (caused by bacteria) from building
up
