Bay trees are a true laurel, Laurus nobilis. A small Mediterranean evergreen tree with glossy highly aromatic leaves and small berries. Used in cuisines throughout the world to flavour food. Bay trees were originally used by the ancient Greeks to crown their victors and worn for occasions as a garland round their heads. Bay plants are sometimes also known as the patio tree, Sweet Bay & Bay laurel.
